The Way we See/Become
This body of work became a visual journal entry as I've thought a lot about Nature vs. Nurture. How much of our framework is inborn? How much does our culture inform the depth of our identity? I am captivated by our distinct ability as humans to choose the outcome of who we become. I am fascinated by the power within each of us to inform our being — to change our thoughts and change everything about ourselves over time. Humanity has been in search of this inner phenomenon since the beginning of time, turning to everything from prayer to manifestation to surface satisfactions and everything in between.
The portraits in the collection depict an inner strength and a sense of realization of brighter days ahead. They have an ability to navigate challenges in a way that produces resilience.
Birds and butterflies have become recurring symbols in this work of transformation. For me, they represent the spiritual realm. They symbolize swirling thoughts and voices, if you will, from our memories, from our spirit, and from God.
My aspiration for this work is that you're encouraged to remember your inner voice, your path, your individual strength. And I hope that you are reminded of the power you have to choose what you believe. The power of what you believe changes who you become.
Courage is necessary to chase out the distractions. To look again. To see. Your vision is not outside of you. It's within you.
How do you see? How do you become?

Hold Still
Hold Still
"Hold Still" is a striking abstracted portrait. While working on this piece I was thinking about the strength it takes to stay and face a challenge. So often we self-distract, avoid or self-comfort. Sometimes growth is only possible when we fully embrace the season. Trust the process.

Contemplate Transformation
This series speaks about how our thoughts impact our perceptions, behaviors and experiences. I'm aiming to highlight the importance of choosing the thoughts we believe or don't believe. When we settle on a thought that is full of truth, of hope for the future, we become transformed and equipped to go on.

EYE CONTACT
This series explores the human need to be seen and known. While the subjects may initially seem confrontational or guarded, I aim to invite the viewer in a little deeper. As in real life, when we spend time paying attention to the depths of someone, their story surfaces. The pain surfaces, the victory surfaces, the hope surfaces, the resilience surfaces. The viewer becomes an integral part of unveiling truth.
